Once again I did more talking than photography at Granby 4 Streets Market. No apologies for that. Such a joy to have so many friends in one street on a sunny late summer Saturday for the last Street Market of the summer season.
Late in the afternoon now, I’m only just in, so here are the best of the photos I took, with very few words of explanation needed. It was great and here’s why. When everyone’s set up Beatlife drum the market officially into life. Next, time for a quick visit to Granby Workshop round the corner where Assemble are ready to start their open day. Walking back to the Street Market past the beautifully reconstructed houses being built on Jermyn Street.Back at the market Beatlife are still playing and it looks like they’ve gained a very young helper, who plays along with them and also dances with Tommy Calderbank. Claire and Luca of Fritto Italian Street Food are here again. Third month in now, their range and customer base steadily expanding.
Deputy Mayor Ann O’Byrne with us, as ever before shooting off to yet another anti-fascist protest in Lime Street. Good on you Ann. Today’s media visitor apparently a German television crew. Interviewing Tommy and Kevin here. Lunch today from Takiyah at Masamba, while Curtis Watt from ‘Writing on the Wall’ officially launches the ‘What’s Your Granby Story’ book I told you about yesterday.
Then Curtis Watt reads Hazel Tilley’s incendiary ‘Rant About the Bins.’
Daniel AKA Blue Saint invokes the sacred dream of Martin Luther King.
While 11 year old Tyreese asserts and manifests his right to be extraordinary.
Extraordinary all. Well done all of you ‘Writing on the Wall’ and Madeline Heneghan too for organising it so well.
And that was it! A beautiful day of friendship, food , music, arts, crafts and inspiration. A typical Street Market in fact. The last one until the Christmas one and I’m really going to miss it.
Well done Theresa and Joe for everything this year. The sixth year of the 4 Streets Market, but in a new street. A huge success and a deep credit to you both. Thank you.Apologies for not photographing everyone, including Homebaked and your new bunting Cathy. Too busy talking!
