“Get there early” Juliana had said “We’ll all be around Abercromby Square getting ready and that will be a great time for getting some good photographs.”

I’ve spent the day so far up in North Liverpool at the brilliant revival of the Walton Festival. Then early evening I get the bus into town, get off in London Road and walk across the top of the city centre to Brazilica.

Past the Bullring and the municipal housing around it.

Around the corner Brazilica is getting ready, as promised.

And here is Juliana.

And the rest of Katumba.
And the rest of Katumba.
Getting ready.
Getting ready.

I came across Katumba just a few weeks ago at Africa Oyé, sent them the photographs I took of their brilliant performance, and have since met with Juliana to talk dreams and possibilities – more on that coming soon. This evening I’m here just to be a part of everything. The photographer in Katumba’s social enterprise gang, which also includes people from Movema and Capoeira For All.

Let’s have a look round.

A great day in Walton and at Brazilica. DSC04796See what happened earlier the same day at the Walton Festival, a great summer’s day in Liverpool 2016.
