  1. When I was a child born 1949 in Russel Rd there were no oil jetties at the bottom of St Paul’s Rd on the left there was a breakers yard that dismantled old river barges. On the right there was some kind of radio mast station that ran between the river and Mersey Rd. Rock Park was all there with a lodge at the gate that charged an old penny to go through the park. Not that we every paid it as kids we were faster the the old lodge keeper. At the St Paul’s end of Russel Rd there was the Aero water pop factory that still used horse drawn carts to deliver the pop. ( that was very early (50s). There was a shop called Pinks and then there were prefabs in Ludlow Rd. Tons more memories of the area in my childhood in 8 Russell Rd.
