The neighbourhood and the almost ritual walk around it that has defined my year. In lockdown times walking into town has been only occasional but this walk, around the local streets, has been my meditation and my breathing space. From home down to Smithdown, along Penny Lane to Greenbank Road, through Ibbotson’s Lane, round the edge of Sefton Park, then back up along Greenbank Lane and usually the allotment, to Smithdown and home.

Walked again, like every day soon after I wake, on Christmas morning.

My Light, my breath, my walking, my music,
My big wide open, my winter afternoons.
My joy in a year when joy needed looking for.
My city, my world, my being, my streets,
My here and my now, my small version of Liverpool
.
My joy
In a year when joy needed looking for.

On Christmas Morning, 2020

My walk, my home, my here and my now.
My joy in a year when joy needed looking for.
