I’d been sitting here in the polytunnel reading a novel where a funeral was about to take place in an art gallery. Prince had been singing on my phone, his song about Dorothy Parker fading into ‘High’ by The Blue Nile, when I noticed something strange happening with the light. The blue sky had turned partially dark, very dark from looking straight out of the polytunnel doorway. Though still blue and with a full shining sun from over by the tower block. Making me think I’d have a minute or two, probably no more than that, to capture the strangeness in some photographs. Which I think I have. In these nine pictures of light.

While reading “Late in the Day” by Tessa Hadley.
