The previous day, after a 27 year wait, we’ve had the findings of the Hillsborough Inquests into the deaths of the 96. And through the day we’ll all talk about how tense we felt, how the whole city seemed to hold its breath waiting for the judgements. Continue reading
We had a meeting yesterday, Friday, the Granby ‘legal team’ of Tracey Gore and me, in her office at Steve Biko Housing. And did eventually get to talk about organising the sale of some of the Community Land Trust houses as we’d planned.
But not at first and not for a while. While waiting for others to arrive, for a good while we talked about Prince. Of all the times Tracey has seen him and of how lucky we’ve both been to be alive as his glorious music and uncompromising career have enriched our days and lives.
Walking away later I surprised myself by thinking of these lines from Hamlet:
“Good-night, sweet prince;
And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.”
Today I want to introduce someone you haven’t met on here before. In fact I hadn’t met him myself before yesterday. He’s John Davey, the man who invested £500,000 in us at Granby 4 Streets Community Land Trust, thereby more than helping to get us moving and bring the whole partnership of organisations together that’s now transforming the 4 Streets.Here we are in Cairns Street yesterday. Back row, Erika Rushton of the CLT, Tracey Gore of Steve Biko Housing and Frank Hont – Lead Councillor for Housing at the City Council. Then front row, Ann O’Byrne – Deputy Mayor of Liverpool and next to Ann, John Davey.
It can’t have escaped your notice if you visit this blog regularly that I’ve been involved for 5 years now with the community of people and orgnisations who are restoring the last original 4 Streets of houses in Granby, Liverpool.Now in these last few weeks my involvement has entered the new stage for me, of actually representing the community on site as we begin the next phase of restoring our Community Land Trust houses. I’m loving doing this so much that I wanted to write a bit about it on here.
